Reporting to the Service Desk Manager the 3rd Line IT Support Engineer is responsible for providing solutions to complex issues raised by Sentinel’s rapidly growing community of business clients. Typically, these are issues that more junior members of the support team are unable to resolve as they require more in-depth technical expertise and problem-solving skills.

In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing the very best in customer service and ensuring that all client SLAs are adhered to/exceeded.

Roles & Responsibilities:

The 3rd Line Support Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Providing expert technical support to resolve complex IT issues for clients contacting the Sentinel support desk.
  • Analysing, troubleshooting, and diagnosing escalated incidents to ensure that issues are resolved in a timely fashion and customer down-time is minimised.
  • Collaborating closely with 1st Line and 2nd Line support teams to stream-line issue escalation processes and enhance overall service delivery.
  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining advanced infrastructure solutions tailored to meet client’s specific needs.
  • Conducting in-depth root cause analysis to identify and address recurring issues allowing the implementation of preventative measures.
  • Contributing to the development of standard operating processes, knowledge bases and documentation to improve overall efficiency of Sentinel’s support functions.
  • Serving as a technical escalation point for 1st Line and 2nd Line support engineers, offering guidance and knowledge transfer.
  • Taking the lead on escalated incidents which require attendance on-site.
  • Installing, configuring, replacing servers, switches, routers, access points as required by the customer.
  • Undertaking all the necessary physical builds including, where appropriate all wiring and cabling.
  • Installing and configuring telephony systems and associated handsets.
  • Investigating and resolving internet and associated connectivity issues and liaising with third party service providers as appropriate.
  • In conjunction with the Service Delivery Manager taking responsibility for development, updating and communication of project documentation and delivering projects in a timely fashion within the agreed budget.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience of working as a Level 3 support engineer.
  • Demonstrable experience of working on customer site as a field engineer.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ overall experience working in a remote support function, supporting multiple clients across range of technologies and platforms.
  • Understanding and experience of working in a MSP environment would be a distinct advantage.
  • Understanding of project management principles and track record of delivering projects on-time and on-budget.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Technical knowledge:

  • MS Office 365, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, One Drive.
  • Active Directory and Azure AD
  • VPNs, Firewalls, Routers, managed switches, wireless LANs – ideally DRAYTEK
  • Unifi/Ubiquiti
  • Virtualisation – likely VMWare
  • In depth understanding of network protocols, routing, and subnets. Remote support of Windows 2016, 2019 and 2022.
  • Exchange 2010 and above.
  • Cloud based Telephony/ SIP Trunks configuration & support.
  • Dropbox/ Google Drive
  • Knowledge of Wireless PTP link connections
  • Scripting/ PowerShell, CMD
  • Google Sheets Scripting preferred.
  • Knowledge and support of Apple operating systems on both IOS and MACOS
  • Experience using remote access software.
  • Service management systems ideally Connectwise.
  • Cyber-security solutions such as Bitdefender or Webroot

The Role

In line with our ambitious plans for the future we are seeking an experienced, dynamic Business Development Manager to spearhead our continued growth. This is primarily a “hunter” role which will appeal to an individual who thrives on the cut and thrust of acquiring new customers. There will be no limit on earnings potential. We offer an attractive commission package on top of a salary of £40,000 per annum.

The Candidate

We are seeking candidates who have a demonstrable track record of achievement in new business sales for an established MSP or related business. You may have started life in Inside Sales but have subsequently accumulated 3-4 years of experience in field sales. You will have the energy and hunger required to over exceed against personal targets and objectives. Equally you will have acquired a level of technical competence which will allow you to be credible with IT-savvy buyers.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an IT Support Engineer to join our team of dedicated and friendly professionals who support a wide range of SME clients with a caring, efficient and customer-focussed IT service.

Reporting to the IT Service Delivery Manager, you will be able to install, repair and configure computer workstations, servers and local area networks, as well as test and operate them, monitor their performances, troubleshoot and diagnose any problems. You will be supporting users at all levels and capabilities, up to directorship, during your duties both on the helpdesk and when working onsite at our client’s sites.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with excellent technical knowledge.  A proactive hands-on approach to problem solving, plus the ability to prioritise and work well under pressure is essential. We support a wide variety of technologies in different industry sectors, making it crucial to be adaptable and willing to learn new skills.

Your duties will include:

  • 1st line support for hardware and software enquiries
  • 1st point of contact for incoming IT calls and assessing requirements of IT query
  • Identifying action of IT tickets, resolving where appropriate or researching resolution to assist if escalated
  • Providing primarily remote support from our helpdesk across various technologies to meet our customers’ expectations for quality and technical capability
  • Working with your colleagues in managing a fast-paced ticketing system and taking ownership where required to meet our customer satisfaction values
  • Travelling to client sites when required to carry out various duties
  • Troubleshooting incidents in order to accurately isolate the cause and providing working solutions
  • Installing and configuring local area data communication networks, following organisation standards
  • Installing, operating and maintaining network services, routers, firewalls, switches and other network devices following technical plans
  • Maintaining servers and network hardware, including software diagnosis on workstations, carrying out both hardware and software repairs as necessary
  • Building, repairing and maintaining an array of hardware including but not limited to PCs, laptops and printers
  • The successful candidate must be well spoken, friendly, good communication skills face to face and over the phone with both clients and internal and external Stakeholders

Candidate skills and quality requirements:

  • Software – Windows 10 and above, Windows Server 2016-2025, M365, Microsoft Entra, Unifi networking and bespoke customer software
  • Hardware – servers, desktops, laptops, mobile devices, switches, routers and firewalls
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrate professionalism and flexibility whilst working successfully under pressure
  • Able to prioritise, multitask and manage own workload as well as participating as part of a team
  • Full Clean driving licence with use of your own transport is essential
  • Successful candidate must have a clear DBS record and will be required to pass a security screening and vetting process
  • One year of IT support experience is desirable.
